FOOD / SHOPS
Unfortunately,
the town does not offer much in terms of halaal food. However, there are
a few key options that may be of interest
YZERFONTEIN SPAR (Buitenkant Street) – ultra modern and well stocked,
offering freshly baked breads (try the Portuguese rolls) and essential
supplies. The SPAR has an in-house SUSHI chef, offering well
priced, fresh sushi as takeout platters.

– 8pm.
DASSEN SEAFOODS (Park Road) – if you see a lot of fishing activity in town, you
could always try to talk some of the commercial fisherman into selling you a
fish or two from their catch. Otherwise, head over to this shop, as they
are sure to have some fresh fish depending on the catch of the day, which often
includes Yellowtail, Snoek, Galjoen, Kabeljou or Hottentot .
Even if you don't see any fishing activity, they also sell freshly frozen fish,
caught themselves, as well as a good selection of other
seafood. Open Mon – Sat 08h00 – 18h00 and Sunday 08h00 to 13h00
ROSEMEADE ARTISANAL BAKERY (Cnr
Volstruis & Park Roads) – May be of interest if you want to buy some artisanal
breads, croissants and Pasteis de Nata. Watching the men knead dough
and prepare the breads is quite a little theatre in itself.

OTHER SHOPS There are a few other small
food supply shops scattered across town. At the Spar Centre, the local
garage / filling station, in Park road, as well as at Villa Fontana in Lutie
Katz road. In addition, you will find a few quaint shops in Park Road, as well
as the old SPAR centre in buitenkant road, worth exploring.

Elegant filling station in Buitenkant Street.
NB - this
is the only fuel supply in town and is not a 24hr station. They close at 8pm. Make sure you don't
get caught with an empty fuel tank!
